One of the best introduction to Bo-Kaap history and traditions is the Bo-Kaap Museum, near the Buitengragt end of Wale Street.

It consists mainly of the family house and possessions of Abu Bakr Effendi, a nineteenth century religious leader brougth out from Turkey by the British in 1862 as a mediator between feuding Muslim factions.
